Social Trail Rehabilitation Monitoring

A collaborative partnership that is rehabilitating hundreds of social trails in Oak Creek Canyon.

In partnership with the National Forest Foundation, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Forest Service, and many other partners, we’re monitoring the rehabilitation effectiveness of several social trails in Oak Creek Canyon.

Social trails can become problematic. The use of unauthorized trails can increase erosion, impair water quality, degrade habitat, and can become steep and hazardous to use. This collaborative project is working with conservation crews to naturalize unauthorized trails and improve trails for safer access to Oak Creek.
