OCWC invites the local watershed community to participate in an exciting Workshop in April or May to learn low-cost ways to improve your landscape and help keep Oak Creek clean! Help clean the watershed by landscaping your yard to help spread and sink stormwater that could carry sediment including bacteria that pollutes Oak Creek.
Community Workshops
This is a FREE course funded by a grant from the U.S. EPA and ADEQ and sponsored by the Oak Creek Watershed Council.
You must register for this two-day course and indicate which workshop you wish to attend.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?
This training is open to all property owners/managers, business operators, schools, and not-for-profits near the Settlers Rest Project eligibility area.
Both dates feature the identical format so please sign up for just ONE of the 2-day offerings.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This two-day workshop will provide participants with a stronger understanding of how to address possible polluted stormwater and applications appropriate to Sedona’s unique semi-arid, high elevation climate.
Topics will include:
- Stormwater Pollution Prevention
- Low Impact Development/Green Infrastructure
- Rainwater Harvesting
Site Participant Training – May-July
- Hands-on community volunteer workshops
- Site water sampling & project monitoring
- Caring for native plants with a water budget
Project Open House Workshops
- Community Project Site Tours – Aug (TBD)

The Project focuses on a wide demonstration of Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Infrastructure (GI) Best Management Practices (BMP) for stormwater quality improvement.
Your property could be eligible to pioneer water cleaning landscapes that are low-cost and easily owner-maintainable.
Project Area Boundary
Eligible project sites will be located in West Sedona, between El Camino Road and Thunderbird Drive, to Hummingbird Lane, extending from State Route 89A toward Carroll Canyon.
Proposed Site Eligibility Criteria
All proposed project sites must be within the Project Area Boundary and OCWC must receive a completed Site Interest Form. Applications are still being accepted on a first come first serve basis.
Projects will aim to infiltrate rainwater retaining flows on-site from, at minimum, a 1-year storm event (~1.86” or 85-percentile likelihood).
Sites will be designed and maintained to be compliant with local development codes, including those of Sedona and Yavapai County flood control. Site strategies will treat polluted stormwater from private property only; NO street flow or shared drainage area projects are eligible. If in doubt, send in a proposal and we can help you find out if you can qualify!
Project Site Owner Commitments
- Complete a Site Interest Form
- Discuss project site area, property need, desired performance, plant preference, and water budget
- Assist with matching cost of design, volunteer labor, maintenance, and monitoring of project **
- Install and maintain a project sign on-site
- Participate in on-site guided workshops
- Host ~3 public open house dates annually
- List site on Map of Project Sites
** Limited project design, signage, site construction material, and plants are available with a $2,000 max. value of materials & plants via OCWC per project site.
