There are numerous volunteer opportunities in the Oak Creek Watershed! Our volunteers are a dynamic team working to protect and preserve the Oak Creek Watershed. If you’re looking for ways to put your passion to good use, give back to your community, and spend some quality time outdoors, read on. Our volunteers have a whole lot of fun while helping Oak Creek and the surrounding watershed environment thrive.
Every member of the Oak Creek Watershed Council appreciates the value of time as a precious commodity to give. We hope you will be active in your participation as a volunteer, and know that your time and effort will help us collectively add another building block to the foundation of service we provide to the Oak Creek Watershed community.

Creek and Trailhead Cleanups
If being outdoors and preventing pollution from entering Oak Creek is for you, volunteer for our next Creekside or trailhead cleanup!
Volunteers should be in physical shape and own appropriate clothing commensurate with walking in the Oak Creek corridor and local weather conditions at the time. Expect to be bending and picking up litter on undulating terrain as well as creek bank inclines. Equipment will be supplied but clothing is a personal responsibility as well as an adequate supply of water and food as needed. Year round cleanup events are always underway!

Friends of Oak Creek
Friends of Oak Creek are the core volunteer force of the Oak Creek Watershed Council. They are the heart of all our work around the Oak Creek area. If you are looking for a closer connection to your community and the environment, the Friends of Oak Creek are for you!
Friends of Oak Creek orchestrate creek and trailhead cleanups, make school presentations, assist OCWC staff in administrative tasks, collect water samples for our water sample studies (see link), participate in community events, conduct tabling/outreach in various on-site locations along the creek and work on numerous special projects that help keep our watershed clean.

Each year, we look for new candidates to bring new skills and perspective to our Board of Directors (link here) and the Watershed Improvement Commission (link here). Candidates should be able to assess a task, project, or event and determine how the outcome may affect the watershed community as a whole. Ideal candidates would could contribute to the board (technically or administratively) helping at events and completing doing tasks that take off some of the work load from the Executive Director, Grant Manager and Treasurer. We want to have a board that functions as a working body. Candidates should have great communication skills with a convenient and reliable access to email and telecommunications. They are expected to attend all the general and board meetings. See our calendar of events for upcoming meetings.
Experience in round-table forums would be helpful as well as strategic planning. Past experience on Boards or in a corporate setting would be a benefit as would the ability to make a decision or contribute to a team consensus.
